A WEEK IN ITEMS

The past week has been so busy, but also incredibly fun! Being one of the more "relaxing" weeks I had, I decided to separate myself a little from social media and not post about every exciting detail this past week. This means that unfortunately, I don't have really any photos from Thanksgiving/concerts/hangouts, but I have a little compilation of my stuff that are a bit representative of my past week!

CONCERT

Alex and I went to our first concert on Monday (if you don't count high-school orchestra concerts which make me fall asleep). I first heard about Seu Jorge when I watched Wes Anderson's The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou back in 2008, so I was surprised when I came across a Facebook event and found out that he was coming to Seattle!

The film's soundtrack was David Bowie's top hits, performed in Portuguese by Seu Jorge. With Bowie's passing,  Seu Jorge toured around the states with the studio sessions. I was a Seu Jorge fan, and Alex was a David Bowie fan, so this seemed an appropriate concert for both of us to go to. The only thing I can really say about it was that it was better live than in the studio recordings, and Seu was really funny. Other than that, Alex and I were left speechless.

MOVIES, MOVIES, MOVIES

I'm not one who sees movies in the cinema very often. I'd rather cozy up on the couch with a blanket and home-popped popcorn, but that's 1. not very social and 2. you'll be late on catching up with the latest movies. My dad insisted we see Doctor Strange in the theaters since he was his favorite comic book character growing up, so my family headed over to Loew's and saw it one morning!

Then later in the week, I was invited out (!! I know !! invitations!  ! friends?) and a group of me and Alex's friends watched Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. I wasn't a super huge Harry Potter fan to begin with, but the film was separate enough for me to appreciate.

Both the films were really good (I see the hype now), and the theater experience is actually kind of fun, so maybe I'll try seeing more movies!

MINDFULNESS

Okay so the reason behind my separation from social media lately is because I've been quite stressed about my goals and the rest of the school year. I've quit my job and taken a lighter quarter, but I started constantly worrying about my application to my major, finding a job, etc. These are things I have control over, but only to some extent. It was eating me alive just worrying about things that I could not yet control, so much that I couldn't focus on the present anymore.

I bought a workbook from Flow magazine on mindfulness, and it has helped a lot in giving advice on letting thoughts just pass through and letting them be thoughts and nothing more. They have little stickers, quizzes, and exercises that help you really interact with the book and reflect on your own thoughts. I'll be doing a little post about this next month, so keep your eyes peeled 👀

UNPICTURED

I don't have any photos from Thanksgiving, but I promise I ate as much turkey and apple cranberry as my body could handle. I also hung out with a couple other of friends on Saturday where we grabbed dessert at a board game store/restaurant that was super cool. I wish I had photos to post about that place, but I hope to return some time and properly get some snaps!

Overall, it was a very good week + Thanksgiving break and I'm satisfied with what I had accomplished. Now, back to reality.
