BYE, 2016!

Whew, what a year! Looking back on my first post of 2016, it seemed that things couldn't get any more different than it already was then, but I guess life is funny and throws curveballs at you when you least expect it. Again, a lot seems to have changed in so many ways, and I'm so glad to be able to experience yet another change in the calendar year.

But like every year, I'm ready to leave this one behind and start anew! I'm actually going to make real goals this year (keep an eye out for my New Year post), but I think 2016 deserves a little recap. It seems that most of us have come to an agreement that the past year has done us more harm than good, so I've decided to focus on the achievements and 'happy things' that I've done instead of the bad!

You all know that I have a penchant for coffee shops. I must say that I have probably visited more coffee shops in the past year than I have ever before, and I don't regret a single visit. Usually I drag Alex along downtown (he usually just orders hot chocolate lol) to get my caffeine fix, but we find it fun trying out the various lattes and mochas (and hot cocoas). Besides, Seattle's the best city for that. I put together a little map of seven or so coffee shops that I loved this year, in case you were looking for a new cafe or two.

But hey, coffee wasn't the only thing I posted about! I tried lots of new ice cream places and a few food places near where I worked or had school. From personal pizzas to sushi burritos, I would say that I ventured out into the food world more this year.

I didn't find myself in any new countries or anything, but I think I did a fairly good job of being a tourist in my own home. I found myself heading downtown more often than I could've imagined (that's where all the good stuff is), along with a few fun activities like canoeing on Lake Washington with Alex or heading to the train station to commute home.

Along with that, Alex and I took advantage of free museum admissions on the first Thursday of each month, and visited the Seattle Art Museum and Museum of Flight. Catching the bus on time to make it to the museums before they closed was definitely a challenge, but it was worth every second of it.

Throw in a couple hikes and a vacation to Lake Chelan, I'd say I've explored a little bit around the area this year! I always like to be more focused on the 'exploring' part rather than the 'photographing' part of the trip, so I don't always take tons of photos and post about them on my blog. I lived in the dorms my first year of college, and ended up moving back home for my second year. It was definitely a different experience living at the school itself, and it's nothing like my current hour-and-a-half commute to Seattle in the mornings. Nonetheless, I'm glad to be able to experience both in one year, as school has become a very large part of my everyday life.

Also, I tried a lot of new things this past year, including canoeing, taking film photos, parasailing, and even going to my first concert! I tried my best to share these things on the blog, but I know I'm not the best at keeping up with the tiniest details since I don't always get to take photos on my mini adventures.

Still, I hope to try even more new things in the upcoming year, along with a couple other new goals I've come up with that I'll be talking about in a later post. It seems to me that 2017 has arrived sooner than I had anticipated. Happy New Year!!!
