A few months ago, I purchased a new school backpack to replace my trust Herschel one (we'd gone through a lot and it just couldn't handle it anymore). I had been eyeing the Fjallraven Kanken backpack for a while, and though it seemed like just about every body on campus had one, I got one anyway because they're too cute to resist. Here's a quick review for my #1 companion on campus:
The first thing I love about the backpacks are their colors. Maybe appearance shouldn't have been the #1 thing I was chasing for a school bag, but they have a great selection of neutral and bold colors. With every color under the sun (and one for every mood), I went to Urban Outfitters back in April to buy mine. They have a more limited selection there, but luckily they still had the frost green color I wanted. While not most neutral of colors, I love how it's fun and makes the school day just a little brighter. I got the mini version just two weeks ago, but I decided to get it in a light grey since I plan on using it for days when I'm just out and about in the city or for work.
They're not exactly the largest backpacks, and they don't have very many compartments, but it's surprising how much you could fit in the 13" version. My only complaint is that the side pockets are on the smaller side and don't fit my Swell bottle. Other than that, the rectangular shape ends up fitting quite a bit, leaving a good amount of space after I've put in my laptop and a few notebooks.
That being said, I don't think these backpacks are meant to carry too heavy of a weight-- the straps are quite thin, and I can imagine that they could get uncomfortable if you're hauling a lot for a long period of time. But overall, I love love love my backpacks and would highly recommend. They're water resistant, cute, and are perfect for the everyday.
